Originally designed by world-renowned architect Bertrand Goldberg, Wilbur Wright College stands as a celebrated example of Chicago’s modernist architectural legacy. SPC partnered with the Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) to deliver a comprehensive façade renewal, replacing deteriorated and leaking curtain wall systems with high-performance, energy-efficient assemblies that preserve the character and intent of Goldberg’s original design. The project encompasses over 7,000 square feet of curtain wall replacement across eight key campus locations, revitalizing the building’s exterior and enhancing long-term durability, comfort, and energy efficiency.
As Architect-of-Record,SPC provided full design and coordination services, including:
· Replacement of aluminum and glass curtain wall systems in compliance with current Chicago Energy Conservation Code requirements.
· Restoration of interior finishes affected by construction, including ceramic tile, drywall, acoustic ceilings, and baseboard heaters.
· Design of watertight transitions at parapet walls, flashing systems, and pedestrian bridge connections.
· Replacement of entrance doors, frames, and hardware to integrate with the new façade.
· Siteand drainage improvements to correct water infiltration at concretelandings.
